For Phyllis, John and the residents of Braddock: Urgent care nearby

When the community hospital serving Braddock, Pennsylvania, for more than a century closed in 2010, the struggling steel town lost its business anchor, its largest employer and its primary health care provider.

Overview

A national health and wellness organization, Highmark Health and our affiliated companies serve more than 50 million Americans with products and services that are transforming how health care is delivered, ensuring better experiences for customers along their health care journeys.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, the organization employs more than 35,000 people dedicated to our corporate mission—delivering high-quality, accessible, understandable and affordable experiences, outcomes and solutions. The customers we serve reside in all 50 states and the District of Columbia and include individuals, families, businesses and government entities. Our consolidated revenues grew to $17.7 billion in 2015.

Through our unique model, connecting care and coverage, the Highmark Health organization is challenging traditional health care and introducing bold new ideas across its businesses in health insurance, health care delivery, managed vision care, retail eyewear and eye care services, eyewear manufacturing, dental solutions, health risk solutions, and innovative, technology-based solutions. The organization also maintains a strong and historic commitment to serving our communities through charitable care and community giving, supported by more than $379 million in 2015.

"The Highmark Health organization has all the pieces in place to transform health care for our customers today and in the future," said David Holmberg, our president and chief executive officer. "We are excited to be telling the stories of how our customers are benefitting from better, smarter health care every day."

The stories featured here provide three diverse examples of how we're getting health care right for our customers. In Braddock, Pennsylvania, we stepped in to provide access to health care by opening a new, community urgent care center; through our VITAL Innovation Program, we supported new technologies for patients rather than delaying them unnecessarily in pipelines; and within our workforce, we steadfastly supported diversity and inclusion as a means of better understanding and serving our many customers.
