Highlights: United Concordia Dental

A Highmark Health affiliate, United Concordia Companies, Inc. (United Concordia Dental), is responding to growth in the Medicare Advantage market by creating a new dental network that expands access to care for individuals over 65.

This rapidly growing group of consumers is having a major impact on the health and dental care industry, challenging companies like United Concordia Dental to find solutions that meet their unique needs.

"Our new Medicare Advantage network helps our partners further strengthen their books of business and provides an opportunity to serve older individuals in new ways," said James Shade, senior vice president, Dental Network Operations, Services & Solutions, United Concordia Dental. More than 62,000 participating dentists have opted into United Concordia Dental's Medicare Advantage network, covering all 50 states. This means that United Concordia Dental's partners can offer their members greater access to dental care — when traveling, moving, or visiting family and friends, for example — by leasing the network.

Five health insurance plans across multiple states started leasing the new network as of October 1, 2020. Two additional partners began leasing as of January 1, 2021.

United Concordia Dental's ability to build a Medicare Advantage network is another example of its commitment to designing flexible and creative solutions that meet the changing needs of its customers. Growth seen in the number of individuals age 65 and over, coupled with their increasing need for dental coverage, has provided the company's partners with a unique opportunity to grow membership by using this new Medicare Advantage network — a win-win for all.
