As a stop loss carrier, HM Insurance Group, LLC (HM Insurance Group) sees firsthand the debilitating effects of catastrophic medical conditions and is committed to making a meaningful, positive impact in the communities where the company does business across the U.S.

Throughout 2023, the company and its employees provided financial support and many hours of volunteerism, and the Corporate Giving Team directed $234,000 to 51 organizations across the nation.

Aligning community support with the business, HM Insurance Group provides significant backing to nonprofit organizations that help to improve conditions that result in catastrophic medical expenses — organizations that support research, provide patient advocacy and build awareness. For example, in 2023, HM Insurance Group paid approximately $266.8 million in cancer-related claims. In the same year, the company provided support to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in their work to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life for patients by sponsoring LLS Light the Night Walks in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Manhattan, Buffalo and Omaha.

HM Insurance Group employees are passionate about coming together to volunteer time to support community programs. Each year, a team volunteers to set up the entire event space for the Light the Night Walk in Pittsburgh. The group assembles the lanterns that light the walk and sets up banners, tables, chairs, tents, refreshments and more.

As food prices continued to rise, employees hosted an on-site and virtual food drive for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. In addition, the company's National Sales Conference was held in Bluffton, South Carolina, and event attendees made donations to support Bluffton Self Help and their work to improve lives through education, training and guided access to a network of community resources. Then, HM Insurance Group made a matching donation for the funds raised at the conference.

Recognizing the importance of mental health as well, HM Insurance Group supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s "Out of the Darkness Walk." For the second year, employees formed a walk team and the company served as a corporate sponsor to help fund and promote efforts to save lives and bring hope to those affected by suicide loss.
