Strengthening Our Communities

At Highmark Health, we believe we have a responsibility to give back to, reinvest in, and strengthen our communities.

Along with our affiliated businesses and foundations, we contributed more than $223 million to building stronger communities of healthier people in 2016. That includes charity and uncompensated care, health coverage for those unable to pay for services, funding for a wide range of community health programs, and much more.

But financial support is just part of our commitment to being actively engaged in our communities and doing what's right. You can also see that commitment at work in programs like Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, the free support offered to grieving children by the Highmark Caring Place, advocacy for diversity and inclusion and environmental sustainability, and the efforts of our employee volunteers.

Highmark Health builds on a strong tradition of hands-on community support: Some of our affiliates have been helping their communities for more than 150 years.

In addition to reading about enterprise-wide giving in our annual report, visit the home page to learn more about community-building efforts on each business' website.
