Tony Farah, chief medical and clinical transformation officer for Highmark Health, has been named one of Modern Healthcare's 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives

PITTSBURGH (June 10, 2024) — Highmark Health is proud to announce that Tony G. Farah, MD, FACC, FSCAI, executive vice president, chief medical and clinical transformation officer, was recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives for 2024.

The 2024 "Most Influential Clinical Executives" recognition program honors licensed clinicians in executive roles who are deemed by their peers and the senior editors of Modern Healthcare to be paving the way to better health through their executive responsibility, leadership qualities, innovation, community service and achievements inside and outside of their respective organizations. Dr. Farah joins a distinguished group of clinical executives from across the United States, including fellow physicians, health system and insurance industry leaders, and community and government officials.

"Dr. Farah's commitment to delivering a remarkable, whole-person health experience for our members and patients has made a significant impact on Highmark Health and our provider network, Allegheny Health Network," said David Holmberg, president and CEO, Highmark Health. "We congratulate Dr. Farah on this well-deserved honor."

A renowned cardiologist and Highmark Health's senior-most medical officer, Dr. Farah is responsible for the continued transformation of clinical care to achieve Highmark Health's Living Health strategy — better experience, health outcomes, access, equity, and affordability. Most recently, Dr. Farah led the collaboration between Highmark Health, Epic, and Google Cloud to launch Epic's Payer Platform to enable coordination across payers and providers, and importantly, to identify insights that personalize the consumer experience and improve health outcomes.

Under Dr. Farah's leadership, Highmark Health launched Mental Well-Being powered by Spring Health in January 2024, expanding the number of access points to behavioral health care by 40 percent for Highmark members. Earlier this year, Dr. Farah also supported the collaboration of Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network's (AHN) expansion of their high-performing social care network pilot, incentivizing 37 community benefits organizations for addressing health-related social needs for individuals referred by the health care system.

Dr. Farah also implemented “active gold carding,” a unique, proactive program designed to eliminate the administrative burden of the authorization process on clinicians while improving the patient experience. The program provides ongoing education, analysis and real time feedback through a variety of in-person and virtual touchpoints.

"Our 2024 honorees work in all corners of the industry and at organizations and companies of all sizes," said Mary Ellen Podmolik, editor-in-chief at Modern Healthcare. "Yet one thing they share is a commitment to improving their organizations inside and out. They are leading workforce strategies, expanding access to care and improving the bottom line. At the same time, our 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives also are finding time to be part of their communities, a critical part of understanding the patient's needs and redefining healthcare."

The complete listing and profiles of the winners can be found in this week's issue of the magazine and at ModernHealthcare.com.
