Highmark Health appoints Senior Vice President of Community Affairs

Kenya Boswell brings over two decades of experience leading community affairs, philanthropic and nonprofit management to the enterprise

PITTSBURGH (June 7, 2021) — Highmark Health announced today the appointment of Kenya Boswell as Senior Vice President of Community Affairs, effective Monday, June 7, 2021. Boswell brings over 20 years of leading community affairs, philanthropic and nonprofit management to the enterprise.

Kenya's innovative thinking, leadership, and proven growth, as well as her reputation as a philanthropic leader in the region, will build upon the solid foundation the enterprise has established and provide ongoing momentum as we continue to provide a remarkable health experience for all."

Boswell most recently served as the director of global impact citizenship for BNY Mellon and as the president for the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania. In these roles, she spearheaded the development and execution of strategies for major global philanthropic programs and initiatives, and directed corporate giving, charitable sponsorships, EITC investments, and global community impact employee volunteer and matching gifts programs. Boswell was also responsible for creating UpPrize, BNY Mellon's social innovation challenge signature initiative that yielded measurable impact on marginalized communities. UpPrize awarded more than $2.5M in investments, grants and technical assistance to social entrepreneurs and tech start-ups.

During her tenure with BNY Mellon, Boswell served in several key roles and capacities since joining the organization in 2008, including principal of global philanthropy, associate director of global philanthropy, and charitable giving manager for global philanthropy.

Before joining BNY Mellon, Boswell served as a senior community relations representative for Duquesne Light Company where she played a leading role in developing the Power of Warmth signature philanthropy project and implemented changes to the employee volunteer program to increase employee participation.

Boswell also serves on numerous boards including the Allegheny County's Criminal Justice Reform Progress Panel, Carnegie Mellon University's Center for African American Urban Studies and the Economy advisory committee and the Program for Research and Outreach on Gender Equity in Society advisory committee, and The Advanced Leadership Initiative executive committee.

Boswell earned her bachelor's in psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and her master's in nonprofit management from Robert Morris University. She was also recently named a Woman of Influence by the Pittsburgh Business Times in 2020 and was a participant of Leadership Pittsburgh XXXIII in 2017.
