Community Highlights: United Concordia Dental

Overview

For United Concordia Dental, a strong commitment to the community has been fundamental to its corporate culture since the organization first opened its doors in 1971. United Concordia Dental's longstanding tradition of supporting nonprofit and charitable organizations amounts to more than $1 million in corporate donations for local, regional and national organizations, including the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association and March of Dimes. Both the organization’s leadership team and its employees are personally involved in numerous national and local organizations, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Leadership Harrisburg and United Way.

United Concordia Dental's corporate social responsibility efforts are tied to its mission of improving the oral health of the members and communities it serves — and have typically included helping deliver free dental care to adults and children in need, providing financial support for colleges and universities to support students pursuing dental degrees, and offering education grants to fund programs that benefit children and youth.

Among United Concordia Dental's 2014 community highlights were teaming up to deliver dental care to 400 students at an elementary school in Harrisburg, participating in a three-year partnership with the Philadelphia Zoo to promote the oral wellness of both humans and animals and awarding scholarships to 32 dental hygienists and dental students pursuing their advanced degrees.
