Food banks receive funds, crops and volunteer help

HM Health Solutions identified two local food banks as its beneficiaries in 2014 — the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank in Harrisburg. The company kicked off the year by making donations to these two food banks. It then followed up by partnering with "Feeding Pennsylvania," an organization of local Pennsylvania food banks to help feed those who are hungry. HMHS envisioned a unique way to contribute: an HM Health Solutions employee and his family planted a half-acre of corn to donate to the Greater Pittsburgh Area Food Bank. Employees and their families gathered twice in August to pick and transport 2.2 tons of corn. In the fall, a group of employees volunteered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, packing more than 10,440 pounds of food for the homeless.
